Mr. Hereijgers started his career as a planning and housing consultant for the Cooper Square Committee on the Lower East Side in New York. Ad Hereijgers co-founded DE LIJN, a Amsterdam-based firm for housing and urban redevelopment in 1992, and New Amsterdam Development Consultants in 2002. As partner of New Amsterdam Development Consultants he focuses on advising international investors and developers on opportunity assessment, market analysis, and joint-venture opportunities.
Mr. Hereijgers' experience spans more than 20 years and all phases of planning and development. His recent work includes: concept development and market analysis for a million square feet loft complex in Jersey City, international housing models for a New York affordable housing study, and public-private partnerships and redevelopment plans for the downtown areas of Rotterdam and Amersfoort. Mr. Hereijgers coordinates the joint development strategy of CityCorp, a consortium of residential developers in downtown Rotterdam. This project included a strategy for the elevated Hofpleinlijn in Rotterdam, similar to the New York High Line. For the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, he participated in an international expert seminar on Havana's waterfront redevelopment. The Urban Land Institute invited him to advise Washington, D.C. Mayor Williams' Anacostia Waterfront Initiative.
Presentation: Amsterdam Waterfront
Ad Hereijgers will present the dazzling transformation of Amsterdam's waterfront. An ambitious redevelopment plan enabled the waterfront to reemerge as an internationally acclaimed model for urban waterfront planning, development and culture. Through the prodigious efforts of both public and private parties, thousands of premium and affordable housing units have been built, along with new opportunities for manufacturing, offices, retail, culture and entertainment. These efforts have produced a thriving urban environment. However, Mr. Hereijgers will also look at the next generation of projects. Some of Amsterdam's most extensive waterfronts to the north and west are currently being planned for redevelopment. Finding a balance between modernizing the economic base, supporting new residential and commercial uses, creating access to the waterfront and improving public transportation requires a public and private commitment to innovation and visionary planning. |
