 Assistant to the Mayor, Chicago River Initiative , City of Chicago Cathy Hudzik manages the City of Chicago’s river initiatives for Mayor Richard M. Daley. Her responsibilities include efforts to improve water quality, increase public access, protect wildlife habitat, and enhance neighborhood life along the Chicago River. She has done consulting work on urban river revitalization in Los Angeles, California, Guatemala City, Guatemala, and Kyoto, Japan. She previously worked for Friends of the Chicago River, where she managed the organization’s stewardship and canoeing programs and coordinated work on several riverbank stabilization and restoration projects. Ms. Hudzik has a BA in environmental sciences and anthropology from Northwestern University and a Master’s degree in environmental planning from the University of California, Berkeley. She is an avid paddler and cyclist who enjoys exploring the Chicago River system and its trails.
