George Nassos

George P. Nassos is Director – M.S. in Environmental Management program at the Stuart Graduate School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology, as well as a professor with emphasis on “Business Strategy: The Sustainable Enterprise”. World Resources Institute ranks this program among the top AACSB accredited graduate business schools in the world as determined in the 2003 survey. He is also Director of the Center For Sustainable Enterprise, a center founded at Stuart to be a resource for projects directed toward achieving sustainability in Chicago’s economic community. He is the principal investigator for a project to install a highly efficient prototype wind turbine in an urban environment.

George Nassos has earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, an M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University as well as an MBA from Northwestern.

Prior to entering the academic field in 1997, Dr. Nassos had over 30 years experience in the chemical and environmental industries. He was Managing Director of Dutch and German subsidiaries of International Minerals & Chemical Corp, now known as Mallinckrodt Chemical, responsible for strategic turn-around situations. He also worked for the Chemical Waste Management subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc. for over 15 years. During this time he was responsible for entry into solvent recycling, managing PCB treatment operations, development of on-site services businesses such as paint sludge disposal for the auto industry and tankcar cleaning for the railcar leasing industry. His last assignment was managing two facilities that converted non-recyclable fibers, plastic film and industrial sludges into a solid fuel that was utilized as a coal substitute.

He has taught at Loyola’s Graduate School of Business as an adjunct professor and has consulted for numerous environmental firms. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Lake Michigan States Section of the Air & Waste Management Association and American Quality Schools, a charter school management company. He writes a monthly column, “A Sustainable Environment: Our Obligation to Protect God’s Gift”, for The Greek Press, a Chicago-based periodical published for the Greek-American community as well as for The National Herald, a New York-based weekly periodical. integral part of the research program, and must be extended to the community.
